Is a video consultation as good as coming in?

For many skin problems, yes, a clear photograph and a history are often enough. Anything needing a close examination, a scraping or a procedure has to be seen in clinic, and she will tell you which yours is.

How long before I see a difference?

It depends entirely on the condition. Acne takes weeks, pigmentation months, and a scar course is planned over several sessions. Each treatment page says what to expect.

What are her qualifications?

A dermatologist. MBBS (Gold Medalist), FCPS (Dermatology), MHPE, the FCPS is the specialist fellowship in dermatology from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. She is also Associate Professor of Dermatology, Islamic International Medical College, Rawalpindi.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. Many patients bring a family member, and for younger patients a parent is expected.

Any creams, tablets or treatments you are already using, including anything bought without a prescription. It changes what she can safely add.

Diagnosis

Examined, investigated,then treated.

Dermoscopy for moles and changing lesions. Skin scrapings where a fungal infection is suspected. Patch testing for contact allergy. Blood tests where hair loss or a rash points to something beyond the skin.

A biopsy under local anaesthetic, sent for histopathology, when a rash or a lesion needs a definite answer. Treatment follows the diagnosis, and is reviewed with her as the skin responds.
